What exactly is needed to build a beautiful (and high performing) ecommerce website? Basically, an ecommerce platform allows you to quickly set up an internet-based store and handle its online marketing, sales, stock, accounting and more.
There are three basic categories of ecommerce software programs on the market today:
In the early stages of ecommerce website design, you should also consider the look and feel of the website itself. Pay particular attention to details such as the colour scheme, graphic designs, and overall layout. While all these elements will make or break your website, the layout is where your customers will first notice your product. That’s why it's so important to use a professional for the job.
Ecommerce website design that incorporates a good layout includes categories, drop down menus, product landing pages, search bar, search boxes, product images, buttons, image thumbnails, product descriptions, testimonials, and more. It's always a good idea to work with a ecommerce specialist who have the skills and knowledge to properly set up your store.
Once your ecommerce website design is in progress, keep in mind that there are many other important criteria as well. One important item to incorporate is the search bar. Good search capabilities allow your customers to find the products that interest them, quickly and easily.
Surprisingly, one thing that is often overlooked is website bloat. You need to avoid bloat when it comes to good ecommerce website design. A good example of bloat is having an image that is much larger than it needs to be. As of writing this article there’s lots of talk about Google’s impending algorithm ‘Core Web Vitals’update. This update will rank your website on several new and updated metrics, one of which being the speed of your website when viewed using a mobile 3G or 4G connection. Which means large image files or bloat will have a severe impact on page loads times adversely affecting rankings. While some SEO’s are forecasting ranking Armageddon, others are saying Google will ease this algo update in gently over months possibly years. Time will tell, but one thing’s for sure, your nice new shiny ecommerce site needs to be designed with Core Web Vitals in mind.
Another important part of an ecommerce website design is the seasonal promotions. The holidays are a great time to bring in extra customers. If you offer seasonal promotions on your site, you will attract new visitors and entice them to become repeat customers. For example, you may offer a twenty percent off sale on all winter gear on your autumn merchandise list, and a ten percent off sale on your winter clothing items during early January.
Another great way to attract new customers and boost sales is by offering deals to first-time customers. Many shoppers are hesitant to make purchases in a new store because they aren't sure how much of a hassle it will be to return a product. This is why offering special deals to first-time customers can be such a great idea. In addition, with the holiday season approaching, special seasonal promotions can give your company an advantage over the competition.
